I am playing with the idea of trading in my current RBH and JL system consisting of 661-SE/R's, 44-SE's, and two JL F112's for a complete Emotiva setup. I was going to go with the 8.3's for mains, 6.3 for a center, ERD-1's for surrounds and four ULTRA 12 subs. I am not tired of my current setup, I actually love my 661-SE/R for 2ch, but was looking for a change and maybe gain a little more dynamics...? What do you guys think? Am I throwing away a true reference system for one that is just ok? I originally went with the RBH system due to my passion for 2ch stereo but I am now finding myself watching more movies than anything else. My only fear with the Emotiva setup is that I will lose that amazing 2ch performance from my RBH's.

I think you are crazy if you are considering doing this without hearing them first.

Oh boy - I would really sleep on it - RBH makes good speakers and JL makes good subs. I would NOT trade this for Emotiva stuff. NO WAY.:eek::eek:
What you have is at least 1 class above Emotiva - my 2c.

Yeah, that is a lateral move at best, not an upgrade. If you want improved dynamics, check out Klipsch reference series and Hsu's new subwoofer, or maybe some JTR speakers and subs.

I think you should go for it! I just purchased 2 of the ULTRA12's from them and I would gladly purchase a second pair and then ship all 4 to you in exchange for your JL F112's - you know... just to help a brotha out! :D

HAHA!

OK, seriously - you seem to be very happy with the RBH speakers for 2-ch duty... and if you are then it seems the solution is pretty clear in your case: just buy more RBH speakers to complete your 5.2/7.2 setup as budget allows!

Anything that sounds 'perfect' to your ears in 2CH should be the 'perfect' fronts for your theater setup. Of course, the added benefit is that when you DO decide to listen to some music again - it will sound exactly as good as it does now!

Without knowing what the Emotivas sound like in your listening room, you'd have to do a side by side comparison. They may not sound as good, but may sound better, depending on the room they're in. I'm not sure if you'd want to go through the trouble to find out. I think Emotiva gives you 30 days to find out. But, I'm not sure about shipping costs. Is it worth a try, that's up to you.
