Sub placement inside the room and poor subwoofer design are the two biggest sins. I don't know which is worse.... wait, yes I do: a poorly designed and built sub can never be made to sound any better.
@Pogre is spot on in his assessment in terms of the overall quality a better sub can deliver. I barely use mine in that they are set around 1/4 - 1/3 gain... yeas I can rattle the house, but there is no real reason to do that. At the level I use my subs, there is no distortion to speak of and they sound amazing.

To your question about a new receiver, this is tough. I don't think you will experience what I did shifting from a >10yr old Onkyo HTIB receiver to a new Marantz. I noticed this detail in particular as I was still using the same speakers and sub from that HTIB: the Marantz processing was significantly cleaner and the old Speakers sounded better and the Sub played louder with a less distorted signal. We are talking in my case of changing from an outdated 10+yr old $250 AVR to a modern mid-high level AVR retailing at $1500. That is pretty significant.

I think op should order a sub(s) from SVS and see for himself. If he does, I can almost bet the farm it won't be going back.

Worst case scenario, if you decide it isn't for you (unlikely), you'll at least have a baseline for what good bass can actually do for the whole system and you're not risking... anything, really.

Another vote for considering a better sub over a different avr at this point.

I went from 2 of these dual 10" Klipsch RPW 110's to this.

Those are 15" subwoofers from Hsu. and they aren't boomy. Not even a little. In fact, they sound quieter than the Klipsch subs were because all of the boom and noise produced by the RPW's was gone. I had no clue how crappy and dirty my bass was until I did this. I will never own another Klipsch subwoofer again. Never.

that looks like a great system and must sound incredible, especially with those svs towers-- I also never had klipsch sub but just the inexpensive polk psw 505
good enough for now , especially that a new roof- on my home got in the way

thanks for your reply ,

I DID NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE WHEN I WENT FROM A 12 YEAR OLD YAMAHA TO A NEW BUT LOW PRICE DENON ,,
I ALSO USE MY SUB AT A LOW LEVEL AND FOUND THE BASS TO BE NOT BOOMING AND SUFFICIENT,
I ALSO AGREE THAT A BETTER SUB MIGHT BE A THE NEXT UPGRADE I WOULD CONSIDER

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT
