Altec made a lot of speaker drivers. What are they? 416, 803, 420? Are they in good working condition?

This is a quote from someone online regarding these speakers:

"These were in the Altec lineup for a short time starting in 1978. Each speaker consists of an Altec 802-8G hi-freq driver attached to a bent horn. 12" foam surround / ceramic magnet woofer sourced by Altec from RCA provides the bass."

These speakers are in excellent working order. We currently use all four (plus sub-woofer and center channel speaker) in our home theater. Excellent sound quality. We purchased these speakers new in roughly 1978 and have been using them since.

As far as I can tell, the woofer was sourced from JBL. Those were a poor man's Altec Santiago. The latter had the Altec 411-4A and the multicellular horn from the voice of the theater series.

No, the 411-8A woofer was a 15 inch real acoustic suspension woofer. I know quite a bit about Altec products. I used Altec "Voice of the Theater" components, and a pair of 604-8Gs before switching to more home friendly speaker drivers. It had a very souple foam suspension. You could put in on a table and the cone would simply touch the table top. Bruce,my best friend who died 2 years ago, managed two specialized audio shops in Montreal. One of them sold Altec products. We discussed about that woofer a couple of times but he never mentioned that JBL had supplied it to Altec people.

Altec made a few weird products in the period of their existence, one was the 3000 sectoral horn tweeter used for home audio; that tweeter was using a microphone diaphragm, one of their worst products.

Here is info on the Santiago system and more details on the 411-8A woofer used in it:

Sorry, I made a typo. I know the Santiago used the 411-8A. I have two of those 411-8A woofers in my collection. I have rebuilt one. I have not inspected them lately.

I guess you had to refoam it. Did you get the appropriate foam kit from Great Plains Audio?
