Alright, in need of some advice/information

Alright first off, I am quite new to the whole HT stuff, but am very excited to be getting started with it all, and am in need of some speaker advice/information.

Now first things first, I recently aquired my cousins old Sony STR-DE697 reciever off him as my start up. First of all, thoughts on the reciever for beginners?

Anyways, now I'm looking at outfitting some speakers. First off, main L and R speakers. I have been looking at some reviews of some readily accesible brands here, and am really leaning towards the Klipsch Synergy set...that being said, I know there is 3 sub models of it, F1, F2, and F3. Now if I went and got the F3's would it be overkill? Tho another reason for me getting those would be so I wouldn't have to upgrade for a while? (I mean after upgrading the reciever or something). One thing I wasn't 100% sure on is that Sony recrevier going to be able to power them reasonably? Any other thoughts/concerns on those?

Now, one more quick thing, I do plan on getting a big sub, so would floorstanding front speakers be a waste?

Anyways, on to the rear and center speakers..in light of me looking at the Synergy series, I was going to keep them the same, so, the Synergy C3 for my center, and the Synergy B3 for the rear. (I don't plan on doing a 7.1 setup right now)

I suppose my main concerns would have to be, will my receiver power them? And comments/advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure of the relevance of the sub woofers to speakers, so I will post what I was debating on getting sub-wise also...

Was looking at 2, first being the Velodyne DLS-5000R or the Synergy SUB-12

Thanks for reading, looking forward to your reply :)

Any other thoughts/concerns on those? Synergy
IMO you need to get out and listen to some speakers. After you hear the Synergy speakers you might not like them, then again you might love them. Speakers and sound quality are a very personal thing. Reviews and forum member recommendations are great. But your ears are the final factor.

I don't know what your total speaker (only) budget is. But there are a few excellent budget systems on the market today.

And totally forget about the Synergy subwoofer. IMO it's a waste of money.

Yes, I have listened to them in the store, the Synergy and also some Energy speakers at a different place...I did like the Klipsch.

My budget is around 2000$ to 2500$ or so for the 5 speakers....sub being another 1000$ budget..

Again, my main concerns are power wise, I'm totally noob when it comes to wattage and what not...

Edit : And thanks for the Synergy sub advice

That receiver has plenty of power for those Klipsch speaker.

IMO with a $2000-$2500 speaker budget you need to get out and audition more speakers. Also keep reading these forums for speakers in that price range. IMO you can get much better sound quality then the Klipsch Synergy. But if you like the Synergy's then Synergy's it is.

Yea, I am going to try and go out and listen to more, it seems hard to find alot of good brands around here, unless you want to spend upwards of 10000$ and what not, which I am not doing :p

I don't understand how you came to this conclusion.

Your stated budget $2500 speakers, $1000 Subwoofer

SVS MBS-01 Compact 5.1 channel bookshelf system, and sub. $3298

AV123 Rocket RS760 system $2306.00

Ascend Acoustic should also come in under budget.
