Hi!
I am almost ready to get a Harman Kardon AVR-140 and just need some feedback from users to help me give that final step. My other choices were a used Denon avr-1802 for $200 (too much) and Yamaha rx-v795a for $125 (no DLP2) so basically I decided that the 140 will be the one. Do you think is overkill for cheap Insignia bookshelf speakers? I just got one more option for $100, a Panasonic SA-HE70 .
Within my economic limitations my main concern is sound quality.
Any opinions...?

I am not 100% sure but I think the 140 does not have pre-outs. If you are going to upgrade your speakers and add an external amp within a few years you should look at the 240 if you prefer HK.

Gaby, the sound quality will almost totally be determined by the speakers in your case. Spend as much of your budget as you can on speakers that sound the best to you IMO. Good luck!

The Insignias while cheap, has been receiving good reviews but I have been considering the great deal on Advent bookshelf speakers I just found out about. I can get the medium size bookshelf for $10 more than the Insignias and they used to be almost $200 pair not only $60 so that should be a great deal and a better sounding speaker.

I kinda started like you did, on a rather small budget.:) The one thing I've now learned, is that speakers matter most. Nick250 pointed that out!! The hk avr140 should do a great job and for looking at speakers check out www.bicamerica.com they my be in your price range. People on this forum have mentioned them and are considered a very good value.:)
