It's not watching TV that makes it hotter. It's the fact that I'm watching it at a lower volume. It's the same no matter what I'm doing. Higher volume = cooler temperature.
I at one time owned a Yammie RX-V650 and then later the RX-V759 and neither got very warm. At times, if I really cranked it up the temp would rise. I could hardly make my Pioneer 1015 get hot no matter how loud I played it. But, the Onkyo 705 was very hot even at low to mid volume levels. Just glad I have already sent it back. The Yammie 663 will hopefully meet my needs.

Yamaha Receiver

FYI,
I have a similar Yamaha receiver (HTR-5860) and it still gets pretty warm after a few hours event though I am using it as a pre-pro. The Emotiva amp, however, is always cool. Also, I wouldn't expect any significant power difference in the Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, etc. receivers in the same price range.

It takes double the power to produce a noticable (3dB) increase in volume and 10x as much power to double the volume.

Yeah I am sure the power will be very close amongst the various brands and their respective price points. Besides, my new ht is very small. As such, I believe the Yammie 663 will be plenty. Thanks for posting.

Seriously, I have no life.
It is okay to disagree w/me. Still not fully sure what you are implying other than you believe I am biased. Well, we all are to some extent. But, my biases are not directed to undercut Onkyo in any way shape or form. But rather just pointing out that, inmho, the Onkyo 705 receiver is NOT the best fit for the Polk RTi series speakers. Sorry if you feel as though my so called biases have no validity. What I am hoping is to get others to post their experiences with the RTi speakers and Onkyo receivers. Thank you for posting your opinions. Are there any others out there?
Yes, we are all biased and you/we have no idea how this bias will manifest itself, when it does, etc. You cannot will it away.
Your perceptions can and are affected by subconscious biases, that is what we are talking about. And, your senses are affected by it, fooled by it, hence your perception may be not real beyond your brain telling you it is. So, it has no real meaning beyond it.
However, there are ways to control for this bias. One does a double blind comparison. And, experimentally speaking, this shows that the Onkyo is audibly not different from the Yamaha when both are operated within their design limits. So, one receiver cannot make those speakers brighter than the other but your perception fooled by the subconscious bias can and that is what has happened. Some just cannot accept this. that is understood.
