Hi newbie here. I just got a pair of Inifinity SM 215 speakers in very good condition from the previous owner of the house I bought and I am trying to build my first home theater system. I'd appreciate any suggestions on what kind of Surround speakers (including Centeral Channel, subwoofer and surround rear speakers) to match the infinity SM 215. New or used is fine with me and I have a budget of around $500.

Thanks!

That's a tough one. I believe, but am not certain, that your speakers preceeded the European kappa line that was made in Denmark. These are likely 6 ohm speakers with sensitivity of 87-88. The likelihood of finding some on e-bay is remote since they go back probably 15 years. The surround speakers may have been the SF-165 while I'm not sure if a dedicated center channel was even manufactured. If you could find some used kappa speakers the match should be good. I believe the Kappa surrounds were called Kappa 200 and the center maybe Kappa 300. Someone on the board has a complete set and could verify the model numbers. These might conceivably be available used on e-bay. Your speakers are from Infinity's second from top of the line and are very fine performers.

Good Luck.

My infinity setup

I have a pair of Infinity RS6 Kappa 6's for my mains. I am not sure how they compare to yours as as I not familiar with your model. But I have an infinity Alpha 37c centerchannel speaker I am very happy with. I don't know current prices, but believe you can get one for aroune $150-200. And due to space constraints, I have the Wallmount Infinity ERS 210 (about $170 pr). They are really good speakers if you don't mind the hassle of installation. Currently I have a Marantz SR9300 receiver which makes them sound great, but will be ordering a new Denon AVR4308ci in the next couple of days. The Marantz sounds great, but dosn't have all the bells and whistles the new recievers do.

Maybe what you really ought to do, is send Infinity an email and ask what matches up with this speaker.
