Hello everyone - I'm looking for some advice. I'm upgrading from my Sony stereo from 1993 - LOL. I have a budget of 5-7k and would love to get the forums thoughts on what to get. Because of space in the living room tower speakers won't work and I need to get book shelf speakers, a turntable and will be streaming music. Any suggestion would be much appreciated. I had my heart set on a McIntosh MA252, but that doesn't leave much money for the rest of the system. Thanks everyone
If you can find them, you can't beat the Magnapan LRS' which are about $700 a pair, that would leave you the rest of your budget for Amp/PreAmp and a dedicated streamer. As for going vinyl, frankly I think it's way overpriced as well as what is used to play it. But that's just me and I'm kinda biased when it comes to speakers.

I don't think spending the majority of budget on non speakers is ever a good return on investment.

A Pi 4 running anything from Volumio to Jriver and a solid $400-$600 DAC is all the front end needed. So less than 20% of the budget should be spent on the electronics if the OP can.

are you saying Maggies are 'non speakers' ?? if you are you are certifiably clueless !

now given the Op's budget and talking Maggies I'd go for 1.7i's .......

I took it fairly clearly as spend the majority of the bucks on speakers, not the relatively inconsequential electronics (non-speakers) to support them....

Going to advise you against the ad hom attack. As another member correctly points out I was speaking to being electronics rich speaker poor.

Ok fine, but I did ask you a question, which obviously was misunderstood. I thought you were implying Maggies were 'non-speakers' ? so therefore I stand corrected .............

Give a few hours to watching reviews online. Steve Guttenberg, The Audiophiliac does amazing stuff on YouTube. Accessories4less.com, Crutchfield. Technics su-g700 Amp, Sl-1500 tt, looks interesting to me. Luxman, Nad, Cambridge, Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Jbl, Parasound, Classic Sansui Au series if a mint vintage amp would work. Vienna Acoustics, Focal, Svs, Canton, Paradigm, Jbl l 100s if you have enough space, they call them bookshelf. All ideas to lookup. The higher sensitivity the speaker, the less power you need. Klipsch Heresy if you have enough space. These are all just things that interest me.

well, i've listen to some speakers and unfortunately, it gave be a slight vertigo, like I was drunk I wasn't sure what was happening until I left the place started driving home and feeling strange in my head, like everything was off balance. I guess the dynamics of hi-fi speakers systems are too much for my ears.

I feel that way when I drive home after a good sci fi flick :) What speakers and rooms did you experience?

Is the OP total against a 2.1 system? May need a sub for full hz respons.
I yanked the subs out of my lead system. They are simply not needed unless you have some tin bookshelves. I now use subs only in my A/V.

They are a tweak down the road not something you need out of the gate for music.

the doctors says I developed a case of hyperacusis after listening to them. so that sucks.

Vestibular hyperacusis is a form that can lead to nausea and dizziness. You may be able to still enjoy good quality music reproduction but not at those same volume levels. I would be seeking the help of a hearing specialist to confirm the diagnosis and see how it can be managed.
