Advice for Paradigm Monitor 7 / BIC ?

I'm actually shopping for a pair of floorstanding speakers. My concern is music first and then Home Theater.

I have a limited budget and up to now, what I like best is the Paradigm Monitor 7.

The only thing that makes me uncertain is that I compared them with the Monitor 9, which I ruled out of my budget and I feel the bigger 6 1/2 woofers, versus the smaller 5 1/2 of the Monitor 7 makes a noticeable difference in bass and low-mids. If my main concern was HT I would settle for the 7's and probably wouldn't notice the difference but it's not the case.

I've read many reviews about BIC DV64 which are really affordable and are built with 6 1/2 woofers, but I have no way to listen to them for now and I would like to know if anyone as any idea how they compare to Paradigm 7's.

I'm also open to suggestions,

Thanks for any help or advice !

I'm not sure how the BIC's sound as I've never heard them. As for the 7's and 9's when I was looking to get speakers, they were the v.4's then, I liked the 9's better as I was looking for a speaker to without a sub. What else have you listened to? There are a ton of speaker brands out there try to listen to everything you can. As far as the size of the woofer alot has to with how the speaker is designed. Both a 5.5 and 6.5 should have good mid-bass with the hand going to the 6.5 in bass by a little. Have you thought of looking on the used market? You can probably get a much better speaker for your dollar that way.

Up to now I've listened to some models from Klipsch, Polk audio, Energy, Precison Acoustic, Paradigm...

That's pretty much all I can find within my budget here in Quebec, Canada. Many brands are sold over retail price here and that's rather frustrating.

None of those really made an impression on me.. (except for their bigger models out of my budget)

So my favorite is the Paradigm Monitor 7 at the moment, there's just that little hesitation that I have ;)

I've looked on the used market, but it's quite limited.

I would look for a use pair of v.4 Studio 40's. Much better than the Monitor series and can be found at great used prices.

I did a search in classified ads, and online ads for used audio in my region.

I did not find any Studio models, but I did find a pair of Monitor 11 v.4.
Any warning, recommendation or things to know about that specific version ?
Does it compare to the current lineup ?

I haven't heard anything from the new line so I can't say how they will compare but I can tell you that I love my 11's. They get plenty low for music without a sub, I'm sure a good one wouldn't hurt but I don't have one. As long as they are in good shape and they aren't too expensive I say go for it.

awesome

I Just went to the seller's house, and I got myself a pair of Monitor 11 v.4 in perfect condition with close to 2 years left on the warranty!! And all that for far less than I was expecting to pay for the Monitor 7 I saw at the store.

The sound is absolutely perfect for my taste, exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks to everyone for the tips, I would probably have missed this offer without a second check to all classified ads. ;)

Sounds good man. Glad you got something you like. Now just sit back and enjoy... Until the inevitable urge to upgrade/ add more speakers hits you:D:D

It's a never ending cycle.

Good deal, hope you are loving them.

One warning I must post. Paradigm does not have a transferable warranty so keep the seller's contact info so he can send them in for you if something ever goes wrong. It wouldn't hurt to take him out for a beer once a month so you can keep him on your side.
