Advice for a beginner!

Hi there,

Bare with me as this is my first time trying to set up a home system.

I have just wired up a pair of SB-HD55A speakers to a Sony amplifier. One of the speakers is working perfectly and sounds great but the other is hardly producing any sound atall. Only a slight low range rattle. I have rewired the speaker again but no luck. I have had a look inside the speaker and there is no obvious fault.

Any idea what I could do to resolve this?

(Apologies if this is a rubbish question, I really have limited knowledge)

Thanks,
Euan.

Switch the speakers.

If the problem follows the speaker, the speaker is fried.

If the problem stays on the same side, the amp is fried.

If the problem goes away, it was a wiring problem.

... consider swapping out the wires if the problem is solved by the latter. You may want to do that simply as a diagnostic as well if you have, or can make, a spare set.
