Advertising is Coming to a Game Near You

"Due to the soaring costs of developing video games, the tremendous reach of video games, extended exposure to ads when playing video games, and integration with on-line commerce, advergaming will be a common fixture in video games," said David Wanetick, Managing Director of The Wall Street Transcript. A driving force of advergaming is its tight integration with commerce. For example, some advergaming companies have arranged agreements with pizza chains whereby gamers can simply click on a banner to have their favorite pizza delivered to them without interrupting game play. Mr. Wanetick said, "Advergaming is clearly on a rapid growth trajectory as it is projected to generate $4 billion in revenues by the end of 2008. We are delighted to provide two forums in which advergaming will be discussed by the nation's foremost practitioners."

They (advertisemnets) are annoying as hell on DVDs:mad: . Hopefully it wont be the same way on video games. I'd hate to be playing Halo 3 and some damn banner comes across the screen asking me if I want a friggin pizza! No thanks.......

Advertising's been in games for years. The best way to stop this is not to click on the links.

Not to the extent in which it will be implemented, from what I understand. Not that I have seen anyway. It will get no "clicks" from me.;)

Good product placement can add to the game IMHO.
It can give you a much more feeling of being in a real environemnt when you see real life products rathe then the albeit funny knock off names that are used.

I always though better physics engines and CPU's/Gcards make games more realistic.

I agree with Spiffy, NFSU2 is loaded to the rim with plugs. Your cell phone in the game is singular...

Whats next? Half-Life 3 with Motorola razr's?
