Adding sperakers for another room

Hi,
I am new to this fourm and I have one (basic) question. I own a Sony Home Theatre system which I have connected to a Hi Def TV. Is it possible to use the same system to add another set (2 speakers) of speakers in another room?
Any direction you can provide will be greatly appreciated. If it is not possible any suggestions will be greatly appreciate. I do not need extreme volume, just for some easy listening from HD-cable box stations.

Thanks

You can add a speaker switch to the system and it should work just fine. I did this to an old HTIB that was just wired for a basic 5.1 system. I ran it all through a speaker switch and put 2 outside speakers on my patio. You can buy one at best buy or circuit city. I usually dont but Monster cable stuff but I got it for really cheap.

Monster Cable® Multi-Speaker Selector SS-4

High current amplifier protection circuitry allows you to use up to 4 speaker pairs without damaging your amplifier.

High quality extruded aluminum chassis for heat dissipation.

Accepts any gauge speaker cable terminated with Monster® Angled Gold Pin® connectors.

24k gold contact spring-loaded connectors for maximum signal transfer and easy cable hookup.

Easy-to-use push button speaker selectors lets you select multiple pairs of speakers simultaneously.

High current resistors with aluminum finned heat sinks for maximum power delivery, up to 150 watts per channel

Speaker Connections

If your receiver had A and B speaker connection, you can use it to do the same thing. Just run speakers A OR B and not A AND B. It you want to play the patio at the same time as your main system or run multiple pairs of extra speakers, pick up an audiosource amp or similar to drive the extra speakers and connect it to the analog Tape Output on the receiver.

Whole House Audio for Lover on the cheap w. ss4?

I am setting up my girlfriend's stereo.........she had some really ratty old stuff from the 80's. This is all on a budget, mind you. I gave her a spare integrated I had..........Pioneer A35R. It is 4 ohm stable and a good amp. There is a review in the "write your own review" section.
So. I initially set this up so she can use the main speakers A for the nice living room stereo and tv/dvd hook up, then ran the B speakers all the way up through the attic and down into her bedroom for a second zone. Well, in the kitchen she is listening to a little transistor radio.........so I have purchased a Monster SS4 for $25 shipped. Can I keep the living room on speaker A, and then the monster ss4 on speaker B to run the bedroom, kitchen, office, and outside speakers? I am not sure on the speaker's impedance as I don't have them all yet- certainly smallish ones. The wire runs might be pretty long. I know the ones to her bedroom were a good 55 feet long. Thanks as always in advance.

I, of course, will be using traditional speakers, not sperakers as the OP suggests.

TwoTrees,

Yes, . . . but, electrically safer to run all five sets of speakers through the only slightly more expensive SS-6 (~$45 on Amazon), so it's overload protection circuit would protect the A-35R.

Additional benefit, this would simplify daily operation by having only one device select where the sound goes--potentially a higher GFAF. My spouse does not like having to use both the amp A/B speaker switch and the SS-4 to select zones (unavoidable in my set-up due to combining a 5.1 indoor set-up with two outside stereo zones)

Last thought; use a label maker to make small professional looking labels to put above the SS-6 speaker buttons with "kitchen", "bed room", "living room", "office", & "outside" works really well to make the SS-6 even more user friendly.

Already have the ss4...showed up an hour ago...for $25 delivered. I'm trying not to spend a gazillion dollars on this. Probably have $300 sunk with the amp, tuner, cd changer, speaker wire, and the Canton speakers I am donating. All used ebay stuff. She listens to NPR in the morning, and background music other times. If it seems like the A35R is heating up too much, I'll go for the ss6. Actually, I think I'd pick up a used niles with individual volume controls for each zone. I saw one on fleabay for $100. Smiles, she thinks I'm just dreamy........and the crap she had set up was really bad 70's and 80's stuff......so this is a big upgrade for her.....the Canton's alone in her living room are going to really step up the sq.....thanks for the heads up, eagle!
