Adding a Power AMP to a Denon AVR 3805

Thanks again for everyone's input. I must say I really do like the Denon 3805 and come to the conclusion, with all of your recommendations too, that if I do add an amp it will be a 2-channel, not a 3 or 5 channel. I’ll see if the local vendor has one I can take home and test with to see if this makes a noticeable difference.

On the other subject:

Well, I have to laugh seeing my first post on this board has opened up a big can of worms regarding if amps sound different or not.
I had no idea this is such a subjective topic (did some Internet searches on the subject), having large camps on both sides. If I had known, I wouldn’t have gone there. This thread is just rehashing an old discussion that apparently has gone on for decades. I for one, have much more pressing items to spend my time on, but respect everyone’s input on the subject and have picked up some interesting facts.

The simple fact is; we all want to buy equipment to fill our listening needs and be happy with for many years. These types of web site forums help in this endeavor.

I wish you all a Happy New Year

Not to worry. If you didn't bring it up now someone else would have:D
And, I don't see an end in sight for a resolution so it will be an ongoing discussion.
Happy New Year to you too. :D

One good thing around here, we always agree, or agree to disagree, but never disagree to disagree!:D

Happy New Year to you all!

I'm a subjective objectivist.

Ianman. I am using seperates. Do they sound better? I don't know, but it is a hotter set up and allows me to use more gear. I have an Audio Refinement amp, 5x125 that was quite expensive, for me, new. ($1200) That is now biamping my center and running the surrounds. I have a seperate Acurus A250 biamping each Canon Karat. I think it gives me a little better sound at lower levels, and more punch in the Bass department. But I have a feeling I couldn't tell the difference between the 5x125 running all speakers vs the Biamped set up I am running. It looks cool having an amp sitting by each tower........that is my final answer.
Oh, I like the Acurus amps on the used markets. My two channel A250 is about $400. The three channel A200x3 is around $500.

Well, I know there are alot of opinions out there on this, but I do believe that every component in your system can effect the overall sound quality. One component may not make a big difference, but all the components working together can make an overall difference. I have noticed that certain brands tend to have certain characteristics. I know for receivers, Yamaha's tend to sound a little more forward, while Dennon tends to have a warmer sound to it. Please don't be affended if you don't agree. This has been the case in my experience. You may have different results. As for separates, well I don't have enough XP to say, but I believe it is probably true for them as well. I do like my Emotiva gear. It sounds very neutral and I definitely noticed a big difference when I made the switch. I hope I'm not opening up this argument some more by saying this. Does this sound crazy? I definitely would notice the difference if I went back to my other subpar gear. Everything just sounds cleaner, more refined. Well, there's my 2 cents for what it's worth.
