Adding a flagship stereo pre pro to AVR

If you connect then new preamp to the 2 channel analog inputs you can then use the analog bypass mode to bypass all of the digital circuitry of the AVR. Or you can use the multi channel analog inputs. There shouldn't be any audio loss. The stereo analog bypass mode is there for you do what you want to do now, except I am not sure if you need a full blown preamp when you have a decent AVR already. Why not just get an external DAC headphone amp, such as Opp's Sonica?
I was looking at the Sonica actually! The AVR has nothing going to it via hdmi the hdmi inputs are all 1.1 no sound only video switching capabilities.

are not those inputs HDMI ? if so, then why wouldn't you have inputs (RCA) for your TT and Dac ?
No HDMI connections the only HDMI available is 1.1 no audio this AVR was Rotels first with HDMI for video switching only.

Now I am confused. I thought you just wanted to use external DAC with BT for two channel use. If you need the latest AV functions that you should just replace the Rotel AVR with another AVR or prepro.

Ok here we go... I upgraded my Blu-ray player to the bdp-103 darbee eddition which decodes all things for 5.1 and that is going to the AVR. Multi channel input.

Let’s say the 2-channel pre-pro was free only question is would the signal degrade?

Still confused because you mentioned hdmi as though you want to use them. If you just want to connect analog outputs of your BDP, DAC or whatever, you can just connect them to the Rotel's analog inputs and use analog bypass model if you don't want to use the Rotel's internal DAC.

Okay if the 2 channel prepro was free, but how are you going to use it, for what reason? Regardless, you can also connect that "free" two channel prepro to the Rotel's analog input and use the bypass mode as well and I already answer your question about signal degrade, the answer is "no audible signal degrade" but what would be the function of that seemingly unnecessary "free" prepro. It does not matter how good it is, if it is not being used to do anything other than passing analog signal to the Rotel AVR that is also not doing anything other volume control.

I only have tape and CD analog inputs I would like to add a record player, a dac and connect my CD player as well. that is 3 connections already, and it would be nice to have the flexibility to add on. Note all of the connections used are filled in not used or needed are slashed, all the video in and out is a waste of space to me as is hdmi. I have all my video going directly to my plasma from my opp bdp-103. So to “clean” things up a bit I thought having a 2 channel hub with phono input would be a good idea and thought a pre pro Designed for 2 channels would be a good addition?

a CD player and a DAC ? feed your Cd player into your DAC and your TT phono pre into the tape input

the answer is .... maybe. See post #10, lovin gave you all you needed to know
Most of my replies are answering multiple other questions, and people that are “confused” and want to know every single detail as to why I would even want to add a component. Then I give more information, then they have even more questions. I saw #10 post but am continuing to reply to others that seem to need more information. I could have just taken crutchfields advice and moved on but I figured more feedback the merrier.

Again another question I shall answer. I play physical CDs on the RCD-1072 in one room and send my full bit WAV files to my Apple TV via airplay then connect the Apple TV to the DAC.

The transport DAC and the sound are stunning on the CD player, and the streaming via AirPlay is for casual listening controlled via tablet or iPhone through iTunes.

so, what kind / brand / model of pre-amp are you considering ?

Well this was all triggered by getting a Marantz SR8200 for free, it has hdmi 1.3 and a microphone room correction for equalizer tuning and all the lossless codecs my RSX-1057 is missing. and I like the sound of my Rotel but thought I can sell the Marantz and some other gear i.e. a newer 2 channel Rotel RC-1590 or in your opinion should I sell the Rotel and l hook up the Marantz and pocket the dough. Or if it isn’t broke do t fix it, sell the Marantz I am decoding all my movies via the BDP-103d anyways and stereo is Rotel. Thanks for your patience with me.

so, even with the Marantz in the equation from what I can tell you're still gonna need a phono-pre. Pick up one of them (less than $100) and you should be all set to go with it. IMO, if you're going to do 'all' your gear in one location utilize the KISS principal. Besides, selling your Rotel will pay for your phono-pre.

I understand your frustration in trying to get a simple answer to a simple question. However, you have to understand you are trying to do something that is rarely done, and that's why people want to know the what and why, in order to address your concerns properly.

Regardless of the questions I asked, I did answer your questions about "signal degrade" in my first response, and repeated the same answer when I asked questions of my own, that only meant to understand more about your intent in order to propose a better solution if possible

So now I understand the reason you want to add a prepro is that you run out of inputs on the AVR. Again, I am repeating the third time, as long as you select the analog bypass mode there should be not "signal degrade" that is audible. If you use the multi channel analog then you don't have to select that special mode.

I qualified my response with "audible", because otherwise I would have to say what Mikado463 said, "maybe".. Every time you insert something in between two devices, you will have additional "insertion loss". Assuming you use good quality connectors and you make sure they are all tight fit, then the very minimum (likely not even measurable) insertion loss in this case should not have any audible effects.

I understand all the question were warranted I was just justifying why I was still responding even though post #10 answered my basic question.

Thanks for all the time and thought helping me.

so, again, you will need a phono-pre, correct ?

I would sell both and get an outdated flagship Yamaha, Denon or Marantz AVR, they all have higher end DACs, all of the features you likely need and REQ in case you want to try out, and much better specs than the Rotel and the SR8200. For preamps and amps at that level, I don't go by ears, but to specs and measurements. I know there have been never ending debates on whether each brand has it's own sound signature. I think logic should prevail, that reputable manufacturers such as Rotel, Marantz and many others who are serious in sound quality, should design and build their products for accuracy, not for a particular kind of sound such as often described as bright, warm, analytical, clinical, or anywhere in between.

It just seem in trying to mix and match all the gear you have now, you may (maybe not, but I would, in fact still am..) get distracted by wondering if you have found the best way, instead of focusing in enjoying the music. Since I got my low cost Oppo HA-1, Sonica DAC and BDP-105, I don't recall when was the last time I used my turn table. Sadly I still have a few very nice brand new vinyl albums untouched.
