Adapter to convert 120v to 12v

Hello all. Does anyone know where I can get an adaptor that converts 120V (AC) to 12v (DC)? I have an older sony car receiver, amps and speakers that I want to install in my shed for music. I want to install it similar to how Best Buys and Circuit City install their receivers, amps and speakers for display.

Search "AC-DC inverter" on google.

You might be able to use a car battery charger connected to a car battery as well. I am not sure you can charge the battery while it is being used however, as I have never done that before.

Radio shack used to carry these but with their nation wide store closings & down sizing i doubt they stock them anymore,try calling radio shack & see if they can order one for you,you could also call parts express,this shouldnt be hard at all to find.

Basically what you need is an automotive battery charger. Find one that puts out enough amperage to handle the receiver and amp. Should be easy enough to find out. Just look at the fuses for a rough estimate if you don't have the info on the chassis. Besides, at least you'd buy something that you could use elsewhere

EDIT: You could do as Seth L stated and use it along with a battery. This way you could buy a cheap trickle charger to keep the battery up when not in use. The only problem lies in the battery. It needs to be kept off the floor and in a safe place. Could always use some of those 12V gel batteries like they use in UPS's and emergency lights. Problem is with batteries is price. A bigger battery charger with "starting current" is always cheaper.

you dont need a battery, just a charger hook it up directly the charger will give the amp and reciever whatever it need,s up to rated output.i did this with a 10amp charger and it works well.

Hey thanks for such quick replies. By the way, I forgot to mention or clearly state that I have power in the shed (i.e outlets) if that helps any. So is a battery still necessary.

No battery needed. It can help out with big power surges for the amp, though. It's like adding capacitors with a car stereo system. A big enough transformer is all that is needed. A cheap car battery charger or transformer from an electrical supplier will work. Probably can pick up a top notch battery charge at a pawn shop for next to nothing.
