Hi everyone,

New in the forum here. Im looking for some help. As I dont make any studio proyects anymore I want to use my adam A8X and A7X as a part of my home theater. As you can see theese active monitors only have two inputs options, RCA and XLR. Is there anyway I could connect them to my A/V (pioneer VSX 1021-K) receiver which only have bare wire or banana outputs?

I think there are no RCA-to-barewire cables or RCA-to-banana cables o neither XLR-to-banana.

Thanks a lot for your help

Not that I know of. You need a receiver with preouts.
Really? nothing esle to do to make this work?

What about XLR-to banana cable? I'll try to find it but it should work right? or what about to peel a RCA cable myself :p???

The Pioneer has L/R stereo output, so I would just connect the output here directly to the Adam A8X speakers.

How many sources do you have?

If you have just one source like BDR, then it's fine.

If you have more than one source, then you will have to use the ZONE 2 output. But then I think you can only connect analog inputs and cannot use HDMI switching to Zone 2. I think you can only do Analog for everything on Zone 2 - component video, RCA audio.

I had a pair of powered speakers (audio engine A-5) connected to the preamps of my AV receiver for a while when I was trying to figure out what speakers to buy. I put the volume on high for the powered speakers and used the volume control on the AV receiver. It worked fine.

Yes, this could be the best and only option. I was trying to connect the A8x to the L/R of the barewire outputs and connect the A7X to the center output. But you are right, maybe I will end up connecting the A8X to the L/R stereo output and selling the A7X!!..... Or just buy a new home theater speakers!

The Adams are really great speakers. I've listened to a few and seriously considered going with the Adams and an AV preamp (like the Emotiva) but instead went with an AV receiver and passive speakers. You may want to hold on to them since they would be perfect for a 2d room set-up. I'm planning on using my A-5s that way and use a wireless music streamer to play music throughout the house.

There are many options.

You could also get a more versatile AVR that has amp 7.1 pre-outs.

For example, you could get this Denon 3310 Like-New condition/full warranty for $442.55:

I've never considered a preamp. What typ and class of pream do you recommend bud? They doesn 't mess with sound quality?

Thnx everyone!

emotiva umc-1

You could try these, http://emotiva.com/umc1.shtm. They're on sale now for $629 and there are plenty of reviews online (including one on this site). They're really flexible. They'll work with your Adam speakers and you can pair them with an amp and passive speakers down the road if you like.

Edit: by the way AcuDefTechGuy's advice about getting an AV receiver with 7.1 preouts is a really good one as well. It will do the trick and you will be able to add passive speakers easily down the road if you want.

But the preamps will subsitute the av receiver or just complement?
