Actual Fq response of recordings?

I've been meaning to ask, does anyone know of a program that can show the 'actual' frequency against magnitude over time of the recording(by that I mean not playing through speakers and reading the fq) played on the computer? Not sure if I explained that right.

What I'm trying to do is see what frequencies are actually recorded, and the db magnitude of those frequencies, on Cd's and DVD's.

Spectrum Analysis which will show you what you want and is a feature of the professional versions of your better audio editors. I am partial to Sound Forge, having used it for about 10 years now, but I always get the Studio version because I rarely require the loads of extra features of the pro version.

This is 'Bass I love you' at around 2min 40sec

Here you can see them combined. The bass drop from about 22Hz to 8Hz and below

Here is what had stuff wobbling around the room, 16Hz at 2min 56sec

Now I want to try some DVD movie sound tracks, but I don't think Sound Forge can import raw VTS files. So is there another program I can use to do this or will I need to extract and convert the DD and DTS streams to another format(mpeg or PCM)?

Sony's DVD authoring program is called Vegas. There is also a Studio version of Vegas (fewer features than the pro version, just like the studio version of SF). I'm not that familiar with Vegas, but the studio version may be able to do what you need: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/products/showproduct.asp?pid=977
