I don't know if it's an option at TWC, but I'm going to try like heck to get one. Even if it means paying a little extra. They just installed my DVR and gave me the 8000 unit. The independant installer told me the 8300 units were out, and to call the local TWC for the new boxes. They are trying to get rid of all their 8000 units on new, unknowning customers. I would rather have one 8300 Multi-room unit than pay for renting two or three standard 8300's. I'll let you know if and when I get one.

I just switched from WOW to TWC about a month ago. I had an 8000 dvr with WOW and TWC installed an 8300. Biggest difference I noticed right away was that I am now getting digital audio on every channel. The installer wasn't even sure why since they had just started installing them. He did say that he thought it was converting all of the audio to digital.

My biggest gripe is my picture is worse now than with WOW. The signal strength blew away TWC. I'll be back with WOW and their new DVR within the next year when they come a calling. The internet speed hasn't really changed all that much either. I had 1.5 mbps with WOW, and now supposedly have 4.5 to 5 mbps with TWC. That was the other big reason I switched. Here's a site to test your internet speed. Pretty cool.

My audio setting in the General Settings for my SA8000HD is:

Audio Digital Out = "Dolby Digital" (alternative is "Other")
Note: I know the above could be different for other cable providers.

And I have had digital audio all along. Of course the digital audio on HD channels is a much stronger signal. My cable service is 100% digital coming from the STB.

I sometimes get 2 inch wide horizontal bands that slowly move from the bottom of the picture to the top. They are difficult to see unless the picture is pretty dark or light and it only occurs on channels 1-99. I think this is caused by a weak signal. Never had this issue with WOW during the 2 years I was with them.

I like to use this site for internet speed testing:

I have tested the TWC connection 5 or 6 times over the last few weeks and always get between 4.6 and 4.8 Mbps. Can't really complain about the internet connection.

I don't believe the WOW connection had that setting, I went through them all pretty thoroughly. With WOW my reciever would automatically switch to the analog signal if nothing was detected on the digital input. My biggest gripe was the volume level on the analog line was a lower than the digital.

Digital audio on SD channels is also lower than digital audio on HD channels. Can't comment on the analog channel since my DVR receives all channels in digital format (100% digital with Illico at Videotron).

Cox offers a service that is even faster than what I have now. I tried it out for 3 months and my average download speeds were pushing 750k a second. Since I don't download stuff that often, I decided to save myself some money and stay where I was at. (Which isn't too shabby)
