What you are doing (and it is fine to do it if you like it) is generating new channels that do not exist in the soundtrack itself. It is exactly like applying a DSP to a 2 channel recording and generating more channels. It is directing sound to a place where it wasn't in the recording studio where they mixed it. That is misdirecting the sound. But if you like it, by all means, do it.

And 5.1 EX tracks have encoded in them surround back material, that is meant to be decoded by either an EX or PLIIx decoder. Now I know it's still not a discrete channel, but it is still inteded to be there even though it's only a 5.1 track.

And as for stereo material being used with a PLIIx or EX decoder, I prefer to hear dialog out of the center speaker, so I use the decoder vs. using 7 channel stereo... but it's all a matter of preference.

I cannot say it any better than that.

I think DPL-IIx just takes the DISCRETE 5.1's Surround Channels and distribute them into the Matrixed Back Surround Channels WITHOUT Degrading the Original 5.1 Discrete Sound. The important thing is that the Front Three Channels are NOT Affected at all.
That is exactly what it's doing.
With my Kick A$$ Definitive BP7001SCs firing Front and Back, I'm practically gettting a Matrixed 7.1 even when I am watching 5.1.:D
So imagine how much better it would sound when watching dts-hd ma 7.1 tracks when you get your new denon player with 7.1 analog outputs and using another pair of BP7001SCs for surround backs :D

I would have to be committed to a psychiatric ward for being too insanely happy.:D

No, it's not good for me to have "everything" all at once. I need to have something to look forward to in the future.:D

I know the feeling... I guess that's why I'm using all my old def tech speakers for a bedroom system instead of just selling them. It allows me to look forward to getting more gear, with the possibility of more future upgrades :D

Well, for both our sakes, I hope neither one of us will upgrade anytime soon. I'm sure our HT Piggy Banks have been depleted- for now.:D

Mine is definitely depleted, and then some... hopefully my girl will get me the sub I want for my b-day, and I can get my receiver and tv stand with the $600 check from the gov. that will be coming in the next few months.
