A2 will not output 1080i

Something weird has happened. This weekend I set up my new preamp an Onkyo PR-SC885P which has a REON-HQV scaler. This is big for me as I cannot get HD programming from OTA, cable, or sat and it does a great job for scaling SD programming as well as upscaling my regular DVD's and deinterlacing my A2 from 1080i.

I know my A2 was putting out 1080i with my old Pioneer Elite 72txv and would display it on the front of the A2. Now with it hooked to the Onkyo it will only do 720p. I have set the picture to "up to 1080i" in the A2 and I have set the HDMI out to upscale to 1080P on the Onkyo.

Is this an HDMI issue?

I have tried several movies and all of them display 720P from the A2.

Any ideas?? Help:eek:

Does your Onkyo receiver have a display you can pull up that tells you what resolution via HDMI it is receiving? Just an idea to confirm that it's the A2 that has the issue.

Not that I remember but I will look into that when I get home tonight. Good idea thanks. I guess I don't fully understand HDMI because I thought if I set the output it would be sent to what I specified not what it is deciding based on the processor. And what kind of info is the processor sending the A2 to make it think that 720p is correct?:(

If you set it to 1080i, then it should be doing so, but just since you're getting 720 at your display, just thought the first place to start checking is the first part of the signal path w/ the player to the receiver. I'd bet that it's either the player or the TV that is not set correctly, just a guess.

I have set the player to 1080i. Well I should say in the menu the highest choice is "up to 1080i" there is no way to force it. The dispay on the front of the A2 is what says 720p. My TV is getting 1080p from the prepro. Could the prepro be giving some signal to the A2 that the max it can receive is 720p?
