I am in the process of buying a new Panny TH-50PHD8UK plasma, which I understand has a great upscaler for the component inputs -- but does not do so for the DVI inputs. I have a Denon 2910 DVD player, which upconverts out through the DVI outputs. I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer HD box, which has an HDMI out, and through which I currently get a decent HD signal from Time Warner but a crappy, crappy DS signal over component. I am also getting a new receiver with DVI switching.
So, this is all merging to mush for me. What should my strategy be to maximize my DVD and TV picture quality? I really, really would like to get better SD picture quality!
For DVD, it seems simple -- run DVI from the 2910 to the receiver, so that I can take advantage of the 2910's upconverting capability. Right?
For TV, should I run both DVI and component from the receiver to the Panny, so I can evaluate both options? Which should give a better picture -- use an HDMI to DVI converter from the box into the receiver, to keep the signal digital, then run DVI to the television? Or should I also run component, so that the Panny can upscale the signal?
This all gets a little crazy. Any suggestions are welcome!
