A very strange question

I have a 7.1 amp (Sony STR-DH800) and 7.1 speakers (a Jamo 5.1 set and a couple of Mordaunt-Short hifi speakers). Sitting unused on my floor are my old set of 7.1 speakers (Creative s750).

I had to wonder:

Could I attach two speakers to the same port on the amplifier, giving two speakers per channel, for a total of 14 speakers to give the 7 channels?

Thanks for reading!

No, but you could wire them in series or parallel, but I would not recommend doing either. 7.1 is more than enough and if you want to improve your ht experience add a second sub or apply room treatments.

Aren't the creatives self-powered computer speakers?

How did you have them connected to the receiver in the first place?

I'm not sure what series or parallel wiring is, but I appreciate your answer. It was a mad professor idea at best, but it remains a shame to be left with these redundant Creative speakers.

Also, I like your quotation.

The creative speakers are not self-powering, I believe, but connect to an amplifier built into the Creative s750 subwoofer, which imploded some time ago. It was only after buying a new amplifier and speakers that I even noticed the hifi connectors on the back of the Creative speakers, thus the brain wave.

To have 14 would be decadent at best and useless at worst, but without the subwoofer the speakers are only good for pennies on ebay.

Thanks for the answer, and I dig your quotation, too.

Perhaps I mis-spoke

I should have said "part of a self-powered system", which is what most computer speakers are since the satellite speakers derive their driving power from the subwoofer.

If you could separate them from the subwoofer they would need their own amps and connecting them to your receiver with your existing speakers would be risky at best.

IOW, yes, you could connect them to your existing system, but the results might be harmful to your current amp.
