Sorry you took my answer as snot. It was not intended to be. It was intended to be succinct.
You have a decent older receiver, but the explanations in your note indicate not only that all this home theater stuff is new to you, but that speakers, (neither your mains nor your sub), were a high priority. In my experience, until you make speakers a priority, your sound may well be "uhhgg". This isn't to say you must have expensive speakers. But you must have good speakers.
Also, it looks like you have run "setup" 3 times with 3 different results. Yamaha's site doesn't say your 3060 has their YPAO, so I'm not sure what your "setup" was. I suggest you invest $50 in an SPL meter for a more accurate manual setup.
You're setting your Front L/R to "large". Does your 3060 have a sub setting of "LFE+Main", or something like that? If not, the only bass going to your sub is LFE, which means effectively nothing in music, and very little in a lot of movies.
There is much to learn Grasshopper. (That's meant to be funny, not snotty.) And it's a lot easier to learn it without a chip on your shoulder.
Sorry, and Sorry i posted the wrong, yamaha model.. Its a HTR-3066.. As for it being uhhgg, i meant sub was almost non existing..
I ran [ mic ] set up again, and this time left sub at 1/4 level, and X.over max. -Now receiver raised sub level to about mid point. I then left front speakers [ tower ] at large, and left X over at 100 hz. - Put in my fav music, and adjusted level to blend...- [sub level adj, is now just shy of 3/4 ]
And on that sub, i have it hooked up to receiver that does do LFE.
I then wondered why, extra base got turned on,in receiver setting's, and it set front speakers to large.. Manual for receiver says, extra base being on was correct... - I orig posted question because some of the receiver settings were throwing me off...
I tried to set front speakers to small, and set x,over around 80hz, but that didnt seem much better than mic set up, where it had x,over at 110, and set front speakers large..
As for my speakers,, well ive listened to some at local place,
Infinity Primus Three-way dual 6-1/2-Inch
Klipsch Synergy F-20 Premium Dual 6.5-Inch
and it seems my towers will give , these a run for thier money... Mine are optimus LX-10 WITH /LINEAUM RIBBON TWEETERS....and dual 7 inch main;s...
Also with my apartment size here , my tower speaker's or any i posted above, are fine for front,- when watching movies...Would be a waist of money to go out and spend a whole lot more..for just movie watching..But, for my music, yes i could do alot better...
