Hello, Been using my new yamaha htr-3060 receiver for a few weeks now, And finally got my subwoofer.

Decided to use the receiver's built in speaker level/setting's using it's mic, as it set up levels/distance pretty good with no sub..
Now i just hooked up a [100 watt ], 10 inch subwoofer,[Low Cost ],, and set sub's cut off freq at back of sub to, 200 hz, and level on back of sub at mid point.. and using line level connection.
Ran set up on receiver as before, with mic [ but now with sub] and here is how it set my speakers and level's.
FRONT SPEAKERS =Large
CENTER SPEAKER = Large
SURROUND REAR = Small
SUB WOOFER = On

X,OVER = 80 HZ
Phase = normal
Extra Base = On

After all this, i was mmmm, i need more base..Even if i max the level at back of sub...
Then found Receiver had set sub level at min. ???.. That seems weird.. TRIED set up a couple times, and it alway's set sub level at min..
As of now i have raised the sub level [ on receiver ] to mid point. and getting the base it should come close to, and level on sub is mid point.
So im not sure as to which, im suppose to adjust up/down. or leave alone. ? I was thinking put receiver, sub level at mid point ???.. Then do final adjustments for level at back of subwoofer...
So am i way off or close, on this... Thanks guys..
Oh, - I did try to change main front/center to small now that there is sub.. but after playing fav music ,, it sound's alot better set to large speaker's than small. Even tho, i read you should set to small.

Let the receiver do it's setup. If you feel you want more bass, simply up the level of rhe sub and enjoy. You won't break anything.

Always someone, has to post snot answer....... I guess its true what others said Alot of snobs on here.. Dont need thos kind of ANSWERS, no one does...
And my issue is most likely still adjustments, and looking for advice on that.. Not other, like your sub is crap..

Part of your issue could be the placement of your sub. Did you place it using the subwoofer crawl? Is it in the corner of the room?

You're lying to yourself if you don't think herbu has a valid point.

Thanks, rojo.. Its alamost impossable to do that way, as im limited on placement here. Im in small apartment, and options of placement limited. So my towers with 7 inch dual woofers are within two feet of 40" tv, and sub, is next to right front speaker which makes, sub closer to center,
of apartment.[ wall length]. very limited on placement here...
After i ran set up with mic again this morning, I WAS GETTING nothing out of sub, so i knew mic isnt always adjusting correct.. But speaker distant was correct. Ran it again and now a little better.., Here is what it set it at now.. -[ ON RECEIVER]
F,speaker's = large
REAR SURR, Speaker's = small
Sub = on
X-over = 110
Extra Bass = On
Sub level = min. 0

On receiver , its setting sub level at 0 ??? this to me is my first adjust that didnt seem right.-- [ have adjustments on back of sub at mid level, and cross over at max. and using line level ]
I raised receiver sub level to mid level and now im getting it alot better...., I guess im hoping for receiver mic to set it all up right..
Friend told me, i may get better results from this entry level sub, using line level in and out of sub and adjust there, but dont want to jump the gun..

Sorry you took my answer as snot. It was not intended to be. It was intended to be succinct.
You have a decent older receiver, but the explanations in your note indicate not only that all this home theater stuff is new to you, but that speakers, (neither your mains nor your sub), were a high priority. In my experience, until you make speakers a priority, your sound may well be "uhhgg". This isn't to say you must have expensive speakers. But you must have good speakers.

Also, it looks like you have run "setup" 3 times with 3 different results. Yamaha's site doesn't say your 3060 has their YPAO, so I'm not sure what your "setup" was. I suggest you invest $50 in an SPL meter for a more accurate manual setup.

You're setting your Front L/R to "large". Does your 3060 have a sub setting of "LFE+Main", or something like that? If not, the only bass going to your sub is LFE, which means effectively nothing in music, and very little in a lot of movies.

There is much to learn Grasshopper. (That's meant to be funny, not snotty.) And it's a lot easier to learn it without a chip on your shoulder.

What sub do you own - some subs are limited and are not much better than tower speakers.

Sorry, and Sorry i posted the wrong, yamaha model.. Its a HTR-3066.. As for it being uhhgg, i meant sub was almost non existing..
I ran [ mic ] set up again, and this time left sub at 1/4 level, and X.over max. -Now receiver raised sub level to about mid point. I then left front speakers [ tower ] at large, and left X over at 100 hz. - Put in my fav music, and adjusted level to blend...- [sub level adj, is now just shy of 3/4 ]
And on that sub, i have it hooked up to receiver that does do LFE.
I then wondered why, extra base got turned on,in receiver setting's, and it set front speakers to large.. Manual for receiver says, extra base being on was correct... - I orig posted question because some of the receiver settings were throwing me off...
I tried to set front speakers to small, and set x,over around 80hz, but that didnt seem much better than mic set up, where it had x,over at 110, and set front speakers large..
As for my speakers,, well ive listened to some at local place,
Infinity Primus Three-way dual 6-1/2-Inch
Klipsch Synergy F-20 Premium Dual 6.5-Inch

and it seems my towers will give , these a run for thier money... Mine are optimus LX-10 WITH /LINEAUM RIBBON TWEETERS....and dual 7 inch main;s...

Also with my apartment size here , my tower speaker's or any i posted above, are fine for front,- when watching movies...Would be a waist of money to go out and spend a whole lot more..for just movie watching..But, for my music, yes i could do alot better...

hi guys im having serious problems with my setup. its a Tiny home theatre system with 5 speakers,an amp and a sub in a box. it took me ages to get it all working and wired up but its still not right. i had no manual when i bought it cos it was 2nd hand.now the problem is that the sub cuts out during periods of no bass and even periods of bass but it tends to stay on during gaming on ps4 etc. iv messed with everything bit i have the feeling its set up conpletely wrong qeather i mess with the frequency or volume knobs on the sub or settings on the amp. i just have no idea what im doing.i dont even know if its wired up correctly or anything.sorry for being a pain but i need maybe a manual or set up guide that tells me every step in detail. the amp is ad-9200 and the sub is fb920. there is a light on back of sub box which is green and when sub cuts out its red.sometimes it kicks back in on its own but most of time i have to get up and flick it of and on again. i also dont know if the speakers are wired in the amp properly and weather thats affecting the sub. please help if possible.i dont understand all the jargon in the forums so diagrams or official.set up guides for my system would be ideal. im just about to give up with it and buy a new one but thought id try one more time

Wow,, I couldnt find out info on it, for like adjustments ,, notta.... Seems sub cutting off would be either possable setting at amp,, or possably bad sub...
Wasnt much info i could find on that set up..
Hopefully someone here can jump in and no what to look for in the amps set up..
