A receiver that can meet my needs

Hello everyone, I recently made a post regarding pc to receiver information and now I would like to purchase a receiver . This was my old post, by the way. audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51133 (Sorry link is weird, still don't have 5 posts yet)

If someone could lead me in the right direction of a receiver that can handle SPDIF out (TOSLINK) and a typical surround sound system, that would be amazing; I would like to find a cost effective one if possible.

Also, if anyone knows of a good cost effective sound system and where I could find a SPDIF cable as well, I am all ears.

When I say cost effective I don't mean $100 or less, but nothing like 500+. I'm sure you guys know what I mean .

Shortly after I made this post I found a thread that talked about receivers and discounts. I went to a site called Crutchfield and I found some receivers.

I found 2 receivers, one of them is Yamaha RX-V663 @ $499.99 and the other is Onkyo TX-SR506 @ $229.99.

Since I have no experience with receivers, I ask you guys if these are good receivers. Can they handle SPDIF? I believe that they can, but I am not 100% sure.

I stumbled upon another posts that offers a 25% discount on select receivers.

I can get the Yamaha RX-V663BL for $374.25 instead of $499, I feel that I should grab this before this coupon code expires, anyone else have an opinion on this model?

Check this reciever out, I personally own one, and have been rather impressed with the quality. While ther are probably others out there in the same price range, this one has more than the rated power for two channel performance, probably a little less for 5.1, but a good reciever none the less. However it is most certainly lacking in the remote control portion, if you want to switch from any of the surround modes back to a stereo mix, you will have to get up and punch the stereo button on the front of the reciever. If you have any further questions about the reciever, just pm me......

Thank you for the reply, I will take a look at that reciever. I was also looking for some speakers and I think I found a good deal here, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120085 . I don't quite want that reciever that comes with the speakers, but it seems that the speakers themselves are pretty decent for the price.

After some more browsing, I found a package deal on New Egg.

This deal offers speakers and a receiver, it seems that they are both quality products from some reviews I read on a few different sites.

Anyone have any thoughts on this package? I would only need the receiver to handle TOSLINK optical and possibly and xbox 360, I watch all of my movies through my computer so I don't know if I need these audio mixing/encoding formats that come with the receiver.
