I'm new to this forum & I was hoping someone could help educate me. I've got a Pioneer VSX-72TXV receiver. If I get a DVD player with HDMI, should I use the audio from the HDMI or is using the optical out better? Is HDMI audio better than optical or are they equal? If one is better, is there an audible difference? I 'd really appreciate any answers on this. Thanks in advance.

HDMI Audio

The same quality digital audio signal is sent over the HDMI cable as over a seperate optical or digital coax connection. In fact, if your receiver and DVD support HDMI 1.1, then you should be able to receiver the multichannel DVD-Audio over HDMI instead of 6 analog connections. However, SACD will reqire HDMI version 1.2.
