A Budget DIY Subwoofer Strictly For 2-Channel Listening. Any Thoughts Audiophiles?

If you can be patient, Dennis Murphy is working on some modded speakers that will fall in the $200 range.
Whoa you mean a new set of modded speakers not the affordable accuracy bookshelf and towers? (cause those don't seem to be available right now-well not listed on his website that is) Also how do you know this?
I ended up here in subs cause I've been trying to find out if Dennis Murphy has discontinued that project

I would not shy away from the 10" kit you mentioned. If you can swing it maybe bump to the 12" version to be sure you have plenty of output.

Thanks Jeff, I think for my first Sub i'm going with an HSU. Did'nt get enough feedback on the DIY Sub, quickly enough. But i'm a "hands on" type person, and i'll certainly be building speakers, subs, and whatever else I can get my hands on - in the future... :)
