Have everything for my dedicated HT system but a receiver. Currently have:
Panasonic PT-Ax100U projector
OPdv971h DVD player
sbs-01 7.0 speakers
pb12-nsd sub

The room is 12x18 and will be movies and video only. I will have one HDMI from receiver to projector. I would rather spend money on a receiver geared for movies than the music. Make sense? What name should I be looking for or does it really make a difference? I'm looking to spend $500 - $1000

Receivers irrespective of brand, within $100 of each other will have more or less the same functionality. In your budget they all will be capable of driving the SVS speakers.You should take a gander on the SVS forums and see what folks have to say about paticular receivers working well with that speaker set or which ones not to get.
