Looking for opinions
I have 17 x 28 HT. I want to create a 7.1 audio system and also feed my existing RPTV and PJ via HDMI. I have a budget of $5000 with approx $2800 allocated to the PJ and screen.

I already have the 2 rear channel speakers installed in the back wall of the HT.

So, I have approx $2200 to spend on the AVR, side, front (R, L, & C) speakers and the sub(s).

Eagerly awaiting all opinions.

TIA,

Dave

Just my opinion, but get one that has the XT version of Audyssey Multi EQ. Older Onkyos have them, not the newer ones in your price range.

I believe Denon should have something at that price point hopefully, and they enjoy a more celebrated and reliable reputation it seems.

My Onkyo works like a champ, however.

Not EVERYONE likes Audyssey, but there are enough people who do, that I heartily suggest trying it. I loved what it did even after adding 8 large acoustic treatments to the HT, with more to come eventually.

PopDisplay,

You have several options in the up to $800 price bracket, all of which will give you an AVR with competent performance. However, given that this will only leave you $1,400 to purchase speakers and sub--I would urge you to lower the $800 a bit so you can put the money into better speakers....

That aside I will list some options for you:

Onkyo TX-SR806 -- $699 (shipped) on sale at Crutchfield --NO Audyssey XT
Onkyo TX-SR805 -- $550 ($30 shipping) refurb on Ebay w/warranty -- HAS Audyssey XT
Onkyo TX-SR805 -- $682 (shipped) NEW from Amazon -- HAS Audyssey XT
Denon 2808ci -- $599 ($20 shipping) Amazon -- HAS Audyssey XT

These would be my top choices, excluding the SR806 actually. I only put that because model because I noticed it was $300 off at Crutchfield. The 805 is a beast and can be had for a low price and then you have the 2808ci which is also an excellent unit. Both come with the XT calibration which is a good choice as Josten mentioned...
