it's time to research a DVD player.
tried the search words: upscaling; pioneer

which player from Denon or Pioneer upscales ordinary DVD's for a better picture quality? (750 super max budget - preferably cheaper)

I currently have a Pioneer 525K

If you're going to drop that much on a player now, have you looked at the HD-DVD players? I know the dust hasn't settled on the new formats, but if you're spending that much on a player now why not have a look at them as they upscale DVD as well as play HD-DVD for less then you're willing to spend. I don't know how they compare to other players on the market as far as scaling goes. You can find them on Ebay.

cheers:)

Mike,

What about the top of the line Panasonic model, the S97. Few units rate with a better piq than this one. Plus, it's a bit more robust than the Oppo player.

Walmart has the HD-DVD players that have HDMI and upscaling of standard dvd's for $499 - pre order. I'm sure you'll see them out your way in a few weeks.

Dig deep for that DVD player

For sure get one now and spend as mush as possible. You really need HDMI to make that 480p signal look sweet(just like HD:) ).

I've got a nice nakamishi(SP) cassette player(dual deck high speed dub you know...the works) and sweet 4 head stereo VHS player. Real high tech cutting edge stuff. I could let you have both for $4000US still new in box.

Funny, I was about to say the same thing. The video and audio are great on this player (see below. Trying to restrain fan-boyism).

Several good points regarding the HD/BR format. You should consider the Denon 2910. I LOVE mine.

Not sure if this fits the bill, but it's a pioneer with hdmi upconversion for only $99 (substantially less than the $750 budget). Here's a direct link to pioneer.

edit:
onecall has it for $99 with free fed-ex 3-day shipping:

this player suddenly became available here :D
good thing I was dilly dallying ... or I would have bought a player without HDMI.

this one says upconversion ... is that the same as the upscaling on the yamaha 2600 receiver?
