Would you agree that the chart would be an applicable ballpark for the average person, given that most people get corrective lenses if they can't see well?

On a related note, I could take my glasses off and be happy with something like 200i. :D
Yes. I think that most people should use such charts to decide what size and resolution to buy, keeping in mind the sources that one will watch. In my case, I sit at about the distance where a person with 20/20 vision can see all the detail of a 720p picture and no more. When I watch DVDs, even on my Oppo that is widely regarded as the best DVD player ever made, I can easily see the difference with true HD, as an upscaling player cannot add detail that is not there. So, although I would like a larger 1080p TV to watch BD discs, I would not like DVDs larger due to the lack of resolution. This is a problem, and I don't have any good solution for it (I could, of course, have two rows of seating, sitting in the front row for HD and the back for SD, but that would add its own inconveniences).

Okay my 3 year search/wait ends tomorrow. I will be picking up my Panny TC-50S1 at Sears. I could have gone for the U or X1 series & saved about 150.00 but I figured what the heck maybe I'll get a bit closer to the set or make my kids watch from the couch & I'll lay on the floor.

To whomever pointed out Dealnews.com ty ty ty. I have access to an EPP w/Panny but they wanted 1050.00 for the same set & Amazon whgile a close second to Sears wanted 971.00. After extra discounts thrown in at Sears it came to 907.00 as long as I pick it up. I went for the pick up due to price but mostly no wait time!

Even Comcast will come out tomorrow to upgrade my service to HD w/the DVR. I though about an OTA antenae & may still opt for that but hey "Happy pony" is calling my kids' name...:p

My next quest is to find a pro calibrating service or try to make some adjustments myself.

The gf's biggest concern is if I can fit it into my car.... Oh Boy do I hope so.:D:D umm she could maybe walk.......;)

I did contact one guy & his response was to try the avia or dve disc myself due to the calibration limits in the S1 model.
