70W plate amp, what sort of sub?

This is curiosity on my part. I have run across references to a Dayton 70W plate amp a couple of times and I keep wondering what sort of sub you could build with it. It just dosn't seem like a lot of power.

Maybe something with a high efficiency pro driver?

Its obviously not gonna make for a really dynamic sub, but for a PC application or possibly for upgrading a passive sub. 70 watts is plenty for some applications. If the device isnt designed to go lower than 30hz or so, then tons of power might not be needed. Somebody considering this option likely is using a driver not capable of serious bass anyways..

I remember Earl Geddes writing that around 100w was enough for the B&C pro drivers he uses, but 70w seems well south of that.

I guess maybe a lot of people make PC subs??

70w is plenty for several applications, and drivers. I have an NHT sub amp thats only 70w I believe. It worked just fine for what i needed it for. It was a decent sub for music. As long as you're not seeking serious extension, you dont necessarily need tons of power. I would venture that most HTIB subs dont have much more than 70 actual watts of power. Consider it as a bass module amp and not so much a "sub" amp. even the little 25 watt sub amps work in the right application.

I wouldn't want an HTIB sub in my theater. I guess it would work with a 'bass module' that was tuned higher. They must sell a few or it wouldn't be listed.

I use the 70 watt amp in the Comp 6 design that uses the TB 1139 6.5" sub.
2 cu ft with a 3" port - 20.5" long. F3 of 18.5 Hz and 100db of output with 70 watts. This was originally built for a PC sub, but it's output surprised me. It now is in the master BR HT set-up.
