Hi, i have just bought and intstalled 7.1 surround (creative TT7700 on a soundblaster live card) and i have set the machine up as 7.1 surround. When i play DVDs that say 5.1 surround on the back, i dont get anything from the rear speakers... do i have to enable it in teh player, or will i have to do something else i havent thought of yet?

Thanks, any info greatly received

Check your system configuration to see if everything is correctly set up. This includes the software DVD player you're using.

Movies mixed in 5.1 sound only use five channels plus the LFE channel, and not the surround back speakers which are used in a 7.1 configuration. On some systems it is possible to direct the sound contained in the surround channels into the surround back channels. This may not give you the 'correct' surround effect because the movie was only intended to be played back on left and right surround speakers.
