this is the current front view. I have surrounds about 3 feet behind me positioned in the corners and angled close to 110 degrees towards me.

I think it might be important to address the speaker positions properly. “Top middles” would refer to some like x.x.6. Front height is what op is talkin about since he’s 5.1.2. Sorry, it’s just a peeve. Like when people refer to surrounds in a 5.1 system as rear surrounds.
Ok carry on!

I think in the olden days the surrounds speakers in a Dolby Surround system (circa 1982) were often referred to in the press, and manuals, as rears. And it just stuck. Now with the move to immersive systems I too would rather use E.S.O to describe the positions. E => number of ear level speakers. S => number of Subs. O => number and positions for the overhead speakers. I'm a KISS sort of guy (Keep It Simple Stupid).;)

Are those HSU CCB-8 speakers for your Fronts? If so, are you as impressed with them as all the reviews I've read? I love the ability to simply rotate the speakers with little downside if needed to accommodate existing real estate. Did you try all 3 in the same orientation? (All 3 "flat" and all 3 standing up?)

I'm reconfiguring our Family Room (OMG the Main Floor Reno continues ) and I never got buy in from the Misses (WAF) for some white SVS Ultra Bookshelf. HSU deals direct with Canadians whereas SVS does not, so buying the HSUs may make the transaction cleaner => if I can get their appearance past the WAF. I wish the HSUs had white cabinets with white or black cones. I don't know if she will go for the yellow cones.

Jim, I ordered 3 CCB-8’s and absolutely loved how bright and clear the sound was. I could not be any happier with them and I’m still 100% sure I haven’t set them correctly (audyssey is work in progress). My HT is 90% movie watching and 10% podcast so I can’t say how they sound listening to a variety of music. I received the L/R/C and immediately ordered 2 more for surrounds. I have since cancelled that ordered and changed it to a pair of HSU HB-1 Bookshelf speakers because the room isn’t big enough for 5 CCB-8’s.

I have had them oriented vertical and horizontal, all vertical, all horizontal, no noticeable sound difference to me.

Hey, I’ve seen KISS live before! (Just kidding, I mean I have. But I The KISS principle too.)
Even though it is a peeve, I was just kinda ribbing YIOF a little.

No shame here, even if I don't know what YIOF means.

I've seen Kiss Live too. In those days I used to sneak my 35mm Olympus into concerts (one year I went to about 28) and head to the front and shoot the band. A buddy of mine did the same thing with his Canon. (We were the only ones in town with Bruce Springsteen pics from his first big tour to Vancouver at the Queen Elizabeth Theater. But that's another story...) Of course seeing Kiss live in their prime was amazing. I always thought of them as a cartoon, but they put on a heck of a show. And the crowd went wild.

Top middle speakers are placed at a 65-100 degree elevation and 44-60 degrees apart. 6 heights are not required. Front heights are placed at a 30-45 degree angle of elevation and 44-60 degrees apart. I would say if speakers mounted above the surrounds on the wall are further apart than 70 degrees, you may experience an incorrect sound stage.
