661, will it fit my needs?

I'm finally closing in on my first HT purchase. The audio aspect will consist of a mid-lower end receiver (goal of $400 max) and a 5.1 setup. I have not yet decided on speakers, but will likely be axiom, ascend, or av123. Also, I want to set my computer up with the HT system (it will NOT be playing HD media, I will have a DVD player for that) so I can use the tv as a computer display and play music or other media from the computer through the receiver.

The 559 got such great reviews and the 661 seems to add HDMI to that. For my basic needs, will this receiver be fine? I see they go for 350 or so on ebay, and that's probably where I'll buy from.

It should power any of those speakers fine. The RX-V661 has preouts so you can add amplification if necessary down the line.

Yamaha receiver

I hava a similar Yamaha receiver and the RX-V661 is a good option in your price range. The Onkyo 605 is another popular model but it doesn't have pre-amp outputs like the Yamaha
