60" pk950 or wait for price drop on 65" v25

I am shopping for a plasma for my living room. I am replacing a 55".

I am having a hard time choosing between the LG pk950 and waiting to see if the v25 is going to drop below 3000 soon.

If I had the cash on hand I would jump on a v10, but its hard to beat 3 year no interest at best buy.

Since you don't have cash on hand for the V10, I would wait for the VT series to drop in price. Remember, Thanksgiving is approaching in a few months and there are great deals on black friday. A lot of people don't know this, but for big item purchases at best buy, you can haggle the price. I don't know the last time I paid full price for a high dollar item there. Just give them a price you're willing to pay and they will go ask the manager. I also found it varies from store to store...some managers don't like to hook it up as much.

I am also going to buy the VT series plasma. Should these prices drop around black friday? I'd like to purchase around that time, but if the prices stay were they are, I might not be able to swing it. I am consdiering the 58 inch.

the more and more i read about the pk950 (specifically the pk950 owners thread on avsforum) it sounds like a GREAT television...

just got home from best buy and looked at the 60" lg pk950 and the panny 65"S2...

AND ALSO...(drum roll)

the mitsu 72 and 83....

now that made me rethink EVERYTHING

the pros of the rear projector would be, it can get kind of bright in my living room during the day and that kind of scares me with the plasma... no direct sun, just bright.. i have several west facing windows...

help!!! lol

Congrats, I own the 73" 733 model from a few years ago and it still looks great, and is still on the original lamp. It's definitely not as bright as my LCD or Plasma, but unless you have them side by side you wouldn't notice it. There is a bright setting that I can use, but I keep it on normal to extend the life of the lamp. You really can't beat the value you get from a DLP.

I've been running a 65" Hitachi rear projection for over 6 years. It's been a great TV. Like you, I originally had it in a large room with the seating far away from the TV (over 15 feet). It was a room that traditionally was darker with limited windows (hence bright sunlight). Worked awesome.

Then I moved. Seating is closer to it now and a whole wall of windows that face NW so setting sunlight is plentiful. You are right about it not being as bright as a plasma or LCD. What we did was put some fabric blinds on the windows. They are not black-out blinds, but knock the sunlight down. It makes a big difference. Still very light in the room via the sun, but it made a big difference in screen visibility and reflections. It really isn't a problem viewing the screen anymore.

My major issue is my rptv is older so it's pretty deep. The front of the TV sits a good 38 inches from the wall. That's a lot of floor space one is giving up. Especially in a room much smaller than one in the previous house. But that's life. I'm looking to replace it with 60"-65" plasma to cut that back but the CFO isn't convinced or at least I have not agreed to her terms.

The main draw back I see is the off axis viewing but if your LP is straight on, it's difficult to beat a 73" Mits. Mine has been going strong for almost 4 years.
