All - I currently have a 8 year old Samsung 1080P 57-inch DPL rear projection TV. There is nothing inherently wrong with the TV. Our biggest single complaint about the current TV is lack of brightness. It sits in our living room which has 3 large windows that span the entire wall opposite the TV and two windows on the side wall. Blinds are usually closed (not light blocking), but we still watch it on "Dynamic" during the day and even sometimes at night due to dark content (i.e. Walking Dead, Constantine). We still have trouble seeing things accurately
Other context:
- don't care about 3D
- don't care about "smart" - in fact I am just fine with a dumb TV (currently running Windows Media Center through and HTPC, so nothing needed from the TV)
- don't care about speaker or sound quality as I use external speakers
- 60-inch is my max due to space constraints - actual width of entertainment nook is 52 1/4", but I can over hang outside by an inch on each size for a maximum width of 54 1/4"
I am technology agnostic - but do not want FP for the living room. I have a 50-inch plasma in the basement rec room which looks great, an Epson 550 front projector in the dedicated HT (which I will possibly upgrade to 4K in a couple years), and a 32-inch LCD in the upstairs kids play area.
I am looking for suggestions on models. I figure I can swing about $1,200, maybe up to $1,500.
