6" wide fronts

Hey guys, I really need help with something and thought someone here might be able to help.

I'm trying to upgrade my current speakers (Polk RM6750 set) that I've had for years, to something "better", unfortunately I've run into some serious issues with space.
Last year as a gift I received a very large DLP TV (65"). The TV is great, unfortunately it's left me with only 6" of free space to either side of the screen.

Most speakers I've been looking at range from 7" to 9" wide, so obviously none of those will do. The Cabinets are simply too wide.
I've even considered placing some bookshelf speakers (the 7"-9" wide ones) BELOW or ABOVE the TV.
If I go below, I don't expect to get very good sound (they should be at ear level, you know it and I know it). If I go above it means having to build some complicated support system, plus it will put them fairly close to my center.

I just don't know what what to do at this point. I'm honestly feeling like it may not even be worth it to get something better, considering the headache this is giving me. I can't tear down walls, I'm not going to get a smaller TV, and I can't really move furniture around to get the space I need (things are where they need to be)

Opinions needed.

Depending on the size and budget you have, I'd start with the Sampan FTL and if you want more, the Sampan DTL. These sound really good with good, solid bass. The sound belies their diminutive size.

Get rid of the refrigerator sized tv....limiting yourself to a few odd speakers or having to butcher your home probably just as expensive and you are left with an eye sore tv......sets like this and plasma models 60-65" will be under $2k this coming year.....probably some deals for a lot less right now...I'd keep the present speakers in favor of the new tv....will also have more inputs, outputs etc to sync with modern receiver and can be wall mounted etal....

The Aperion Intimus 4T tower speakers are 5 inches wide, although the base is a little bigger. Not sure if you can take off the base, as I've never used one of their products.

EMP is clearin out their old EF50 towers right now.
The only real issue with them is the matching center only goes down to ~100hz so if you only have one sub then upper bass may just be slightly localizable (only if it's in the center channel though)

Thin speakers are actually supposed to image rather well.

I got to audition these in my own room when my friend ordered them, they are very nice. Personally though I would take the Aperion towers over the EMP's.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I was able to get my hands on some Polk RTi4's for a low enough price that I just couldn't say no. I know they are an inch too wide, but I found a way to make them work.
I know they aren't the best thing int he world, but they are a large step up from what I have now.
