6 ohm Speakers

i was looking at getting some EMP spearkers but while looking at their specifications it says they are 6ohm speakers. Would it work to use them on a reciever rated 125W 8 ohms what am i missing.

You would have to see what your amp is rated to drive at 6 ohms. Depends on how low the impedance dips, it could be a fairly difficult speaker to drive.

From what I remember reading on the EMP review here they are a fairly easy speaker to drive, the impedance doesn't drop much below 6 ohms. What receiver would you be using?

If the sensitivity is fairly high, most receivers can handle a 6 Ohm load adequately. It depends on a number of factors such as your room size, how loud you intend to listen, and as mentioned by Docks, how difficult a load they truly are to drive.

I have the speakers and I have no problem driving them without a seperate amp. However, I was told that I have pretty good AVR. You came to the right place to get your answers.

Speaking of the E5ti. I have the first generation of these towers and I just got my order of outriggers from EMPTEK. Well, the back drill holes on the speakers do not match the holes in the outriggers. I just got confirmation from EMP that they must to have changed the drill hole locations on the newer models. Anyway, EMP support told me that I can return the outriggers for a full refund or I could buy some good wood screws to screw the outriggers to the cabinet. I was told that they (EMP) screw spikes on several of their speakers.

What do you guys think? I am kind of afraid to screw on those awesome cabinets even though that the holes would be on the bottom. I am not that familiar with MDF. I guess it is supposed to be 1/2 inch MDF.

Any opinions?????

I dont have the reciever yet but i was thinking at least a Onkyo TX-NR807 probally something beter or a comporable Marantz reciever

I have entire suite of 6 ohm speakers (PSB Image series) that were coinnected to a lowly Technics SA-DX940 and now a Yamaha RX-V1800. Both of these receivers were able to crank the sound to loudness levels well beyond comfortable listening levels. The Tehnics started straining but the Yamaha being more powerful does this effortlessly. When I say uncomfortable listening elvels, I mean mid 90s dB sustained.

If the senstivity of these speakers are in the high 80s (87 or higher) then any midlevel recevier will have no difficulty driving them. By midlevel, I don't mean price wise, rather from a manufacturer's product line mid level. Avoid entry level, Hope this helps.

Something of that caliber or above would do perfectly fine with those speakers. Check out www.accessories4less.com for refurbs on Onkyo and Marantz, a bunch of us have purchased refurbs from them and they are excellent values.
