6 ohm speakers for zone 2?????

I'm going to set up a separate zone for some remote speakers and need some advice. I installed all the in wall wiring when I remodeled last year. My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V663. I'd like to try hooking up some old speakers I have while I'm deciding on final speakers. The old speakers I want to try are from a JVC HTiB and are 45W 6ohm small bookshelf speakers. These small speakers came with very small speakers wires.

Here are my questions:

1. Are those speakers too small for the receiver, or do I set the receiver to handle that size? I haven't read the manual on that yet?

2. If those speakers will work, can I use standard banana plugs for connections to the wall outlets, or should I use something else?

Hey, Mike. To answer your questions:

1. I do not believe that the 663 will have any trouble with 6-Ohm speakers. You shouldn't have to set the receiver up to handle that size. You are using them for a second zone and probably don't have a sub in that zone, so I'd set them as "large."

2. Standard banana plugs should be just fine, as long as you can connect the small wires to the plugs that you have. If your wall plates take bare wire, that's another good choice.
