6 ohm setting on A/V receiver?

I'm pretty sure I've read some answers about this before but I can't find the thread. I just bought some used Axiom QS8s and they are a 6 ohm speaker. Should I enable that setting on my receiver? I think the answer I read was no and just leave the receiver in the 8 ohm setting. Whats the verdict?

leave it on eight ohms, changing it will limit power and the amp will clip sooner

Definitely don't switch it, unless you are using a very high end receiver like an Arcam. On most receivers, all it does is allow the receiver to limit power to protect it from putting too much load on the receiver. It is a mechanism that is in place to protect the receiver, but actually will limit your performance. Leave it on 8...

Actually it really offers no protection for the receiver. All it does is allow it to clip sooner so when UL tests heat dissipation at 1% the receiver will reach 1% at a lower power level and pass their test. The switch is only there for that purpose. It should NEVER be used for normal operation regardless of speaker impedance unless you enjoy clipping the amplifier at lower power levels and dig distortion ;)

Sorry to hang me of this thread but I think I have the same situation:
What about If I have A/V receiver 8-16 impediance and I wish to hook one pair of speakers rated on 6 omhs only on the rear channel.. (The others channels I have speakers rated on 8 omhs)..
What results would have My set up?
thanks:)

You should be fine. The rear channel is not of great concern IMO.

Its best to re-read post #6 for your answer.
