6.1 , 7.1 Set up ..Which Reciever??

Ok A very noob question but im very curious. In my house i have a 6.1 set up hard wired into the wall, these days most of the recievers are 7.1. Can i use 7.1 reciever with 6 speakers<i.e 6.1 setup :-rear center suroound channel>. Will all the modes, all dsp's work correctly. Or do i need to go for a actual 6.1 reciever???

if u had ato get a new reciever with my present speakers infinity rs-4 <Left/Right>, Infinty cc-3 <center>, Bose Model 100 <surround>. Which one would be your personal choice between the entry level recievers of denon, yamaha and harmon/kardon???

Absolutely you can use a 7.1 receiver for a 6.1 setup. It's what I'm doing at the moment. You just won't be using both rear surrounds on the receiver. The receiver's manual should tell you which rear surround to use (left or right) for your rear centre.

As to your other question regarding which receiver to use, there are people here that are far more knowledgeable about this than I. So I shall defer to them . . .
