So you need a set of 5 speakers, one sub and an avr for the $5k...how about an optical disc player? You already have the tv/projection setup? What size room is this for? Mix of movies/music? What speakers do you have now if any, what speakers do you tend to like?

Might look around accessories4less.com for avrs and even speaker sets, subs they don't have much of usually so would suggest the sub specialists like SVS, Rythmik, Hsu, Power Sound Audio, Seaton, JTR, etc.

Lots of good setups exist within this price range. Kef, Ascend acoustics, Hsu Research, SVS, JBL, to name a few. For AVRs, look at Denon, Yamaha, or Marantz.

Seriously, I have no life.
How large is his TV? Don't think you want the sound larger than the TV.

I think its 65'.... I should add its a living room so i think something sleek and blends well with the room would help.. possibly a soundbar

You need to figure out what you're trying to get recommendations for. First you say 5.1 system and an AVR, now your saying maybe a soundbar. Those are two very different approaches and questions.

He'll get much better sound and realism going with a true 5.1 system as opposed to a soundbar.

Take a look at the Triad Bronze LCR, recently reviewed here in Audioholics. They are available in InRoom, InWall, OnWall and inCeiling versions. Triad manufactures each speaker by hand and will paint match them to what ever color you like.

If you need help designing a system, please let me know.

Triad makes some pretty awesome speakers! Almost all models are manufactured in Oregon, and its also convenient that we happen to have a distributor here on the forum - have your neighbor join the fun!

If you look at Triads website, you'll see they have speaker design for literally any type of installation - I saw someone needed Inceiling speakers with a channel added to the enclosure so the speaker would fit around pipes in their ceiling. I've not heard of that anywhere else...

Would the center speaker need to be of the horizontal type?
