thinking about outlaw's 5 monos with the marantz, but given i am relatively new to separates i was hoping someone smarter than me could tell me if this is a mistake? Also, i have read that HDMI 2.0a is important but i dont see the 2.0a or UHD designation for the 7704, am i missing it? is it there? Should i care if it isnt there? thank you for your help and suggestions. by the way, the room is bigger (25ft by 18ft) and i am using all vandersteen speakers (2ce sigs, the reference center).

How much output are you looking for that you'd need full monos? I could see doing 3 for the front and a 2ch for the rears, because rears are rarely going to need that much amp. The 2CE Sig is listed as 7 Ohm and 86dB sensitive, and in a room that size, should be fine without monos for the rears IMO.

Umm, no expert here but I would say yes it would help your room is pretty big. 5 Outlaw monoblocks alone with your marantz unit will make for a awesome setup. As for your other questions there are a lot of guys on here who use marantz units and highly recommend them very good units. A few of them gurus will chime in.

J_garcia,

i appreciate your point, but it actually works out cheaper to do all monos than a new amp with the same wpc.

Not a mistake but a x4400h for $799 to 999 plus 3 mono instead of 5 would save you money and no loss in features and sound quality.

I'm a separates guy...I've toyed around with adding two more 2200 Monoblocks for my 5.2.4 system, but I haven't and probably won't. I wouldn't call it a mistake, they are great little amps, but at the same time I don't expect you'll experience any appreciable gain in SQ by having the monoblocks powering surround speakers.

After listening to my latest multi-ch SACD...If I did anything, I would rather spend the money on upgrading my side surrounds to some Phil book shelf speakers with the RAAL tweeter....movies send the basic sound effects to the surrounds...some multi-channel audio send far more to the surrounds.

Outlaw runs specials on the 2200s from time to time and you can get them for very reasonable price.. I remember my 3 cost less than some 200wpc 3 channel amps...3 separate power supplies...it was a no brainer.

Marantz...yes, the HDMI inputs are rated 2.0a...I have the AV7702MK2 and it has 2.0A and it's 2 generations ahead of the AV7704.

I won't say there's nothing there. I have balanced...mono to pre/pro LCR. At one point I thought I might my amps in the HVAC closet and have a minimal look for the rest of the system. That would've required 3 runs 25' at least to the pre/pro. In the end I didn't do that...system is very quiet, but no secret sauce to my knowledge as I haven't done a A/B with RCA.
