5.1 surround sound conversion or splitting help needed!

After a considerable amount of time was spent in my options for this pickle, I thought it best to seek help from more technologically minded folk. I know audio leads are called AV leads and composite audio and vision leads are also sometimes called this but I thought it best to list the colours too so that you know that I know what it is I'm looking at

I bought a CJC 5.1 surround sound system and found that the cables provided were less than ideal as they were RCA to stereo jack. See cjc 5.1ch-speaker-subwoofer-system in dealsdirect.com.au for specs. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Ideal setup for surround sound
Xbox OUT to Tv IN, then Tv out to Surround sound IN.

Barriers-
Nowhere to plug in 3.5mm jacks that were provided with surround sound.
Input has 6 female RCA for surround sound, Output has 2 male RCA avail

Cables provided- stereo 3.5mm jack to Red and White RCA (x3 cables for centre/sub, surround & front speakers)

Inputs avail TV - Red, White and Yellow RCA
Outputs avail TV - Red, White and Yellow RCA
S-Video

Inputs avail Surround sound- Red and White RCA (x3 for centre/sub, surround & front speakers

Output Xbox – exclusive Xbox plug to Composite Video + Audio RCA

Ideas
Using the Xbox RCA audio cable and Y adapters-
Red and White audio cable split to multiply to make R2 (x2) and W2 (x2)
One R2 and One W2 is split to multiply to create R3 (x2) and W3 (x2)
The other R2 and W2 are left as is or extended for neatness
End result 6 RCA male for surround sound input

Afterthought

...Or is it possible to connect the xbox audio OUT to Tv audio IN and have the S-video in the TV connect to a lead that has 3 stereo jack females to connect the cables provided to? Does this heavenly cable exist?

Does the x-box have a digital optical or coax audio output? This is the connection you need to the receiver for 5.1 surround sound. The Red/White RCAs are for 2 channel stereo.

No, the xbox only has output to HDTV rca's or Red, white and yellow as per the norm. The xbox games support 5.1 but I'm beginning to think that I will need a receiver to distribute the sound as 5.1 or settle for 2.1 :(

Why not go straight into the HT unit instead of to TV the back out to HT? You always want singnal as short and pure as possible. Then simply run video straight to TV. Maybe I am missing something but your way to hook up makes no sense to me, contact me PM if you wish and I will help if I can.

Hi there,

I was hoping to have the tv as surround sound too but this seems like a luxury I will have to sacrifice.

So I have the xbox audio connected direct to the sound system as 2.1 :( as it seems there is no way (even though xbox games support 5.1) to distribute the sound as 5.1 with the cables provided.

Thanks for assistance.
