Hello

I just joined and have been trying to do as much research as possible.
I'm planning on upgrading my system soon and wanted some advice and the best setup I could get for my budget.

I listen to 90% movies and 10% music. The room it will be going in is 14 feet by 20 feet wide and has a vaulted ceiling with a max height of 9 feet. Not sure if it matters but the floor is hardwood (pergo).

I already have a Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K for a receiver and would like to stay with that for the time being. There aren't allot of places where I live to listen to different setups. I did just return from Holiday Vacation in Portland and was able to make it into Aperion's demo room and listened to there 5T system and though they sounded good. Anything I get will be a upgrade over my current speakers I just want to make sure I get a good system for my budget.

I would appreciate any and all feedback people have!

Thanks,

Cole

Does your center speaker have to be horizontal or can it be vertical bookshelf type?

What kind of dimensions does your center need to be?

What about surround speaker size?

Center channel needs to be Horizontal but can be pretty big up to 1 foot deep,1 foot tall and 3 feet wide.

For the surrounds they are currently wall mounted but I would have no problems using smaller towers instead. So i guess pretty much any size for surrounds.

OK, I'm recommending 2 different systems.

System#1 is two of the NHT Absolute Towers @ $500 each:
Amazon.com: NHT Absolute Tower Speaker (Piano Black Gloss, Each): Electronics

3 of the NHT Absolute Zero bookshelf speakers @ $200 each (Center & Surround) :
http://www.amazon.com/NHT-N-AZB-Absolute-Speaker-Black/dp/B000BYNP7K/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1325391646&sr=8-5

Rythmik FV12 subwoofer x1 @ $500:
Rythmik FV12 - vented HT sub

System#2 is the Infinity Primus P363 front LEFT and Right, P351C for center, & P163 for surrounds. Now you can get dual Rythmik FV12 subs.:D

http://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/infinity_primus.html

$400 + $200 + $85 + $85 + $1000.

I think I like #2 better.:D

You can't go wrong with acudeftechguy's recommendations, but if you only have room for one sub at $1k, check out the Hsu Research VTF15h, Epik Empire, or Hsu VTF3. The Hsu Hybrid package would be a good choice too. I think some Klipsch Reference bookshelf speakers would also be worth looking into, but not the Klispch subwoofer. For subs, your best bets are Hsu Research, Outlaw Audio, Elemental Designs, Rythmik, SVS, and Epik. If the speakers don't have to look pretty, you might look into Elemental Designs Cinema series speakers are a package from Chase Home Theater.
