5.1 Output from DVD

I am interested in buying a DVD player that has a coax digital output and 5.1 channel outputs.
If I use the 5.1 channel output to my receiver will I also need to use the coax output.
Will the 5.1 channel output only work with DVD Audio sources
The reason I am asking is because my receiver only has 1 coax input(and it's being used)
I have a free optical and 5.1 input

Thanks

Depends on the player, but if it has a 5.1 output it almost certainly has a DD/DTS decoder, too. In that case, all you'll need is the 5.1 input. However, often the bass management & channel trims are more precise on the receiver, so you may want to consider using the digital input with DD/DTS. There are a lot of players with both coax & optical outputs.

Which model are you looking at? That would really help us to tell you if it has a decoder.

I am considering the Cambridge Audio Azur 540D

Any other suggestions on DVD(Audio and Video) players in this price range ($400) would be great.
