5.1 OR 3.1 for under 300 USD

I'm coming from having used a bose lifestyle 5.1 channel system. I am getting the onkyo sr507 80w/ch receiver. The reason I am letting go of the bose is bc I want true hd decoding. Prove to me that bose charges 4 times the price and help me choose an equal 5.1 for 300 dollars. If this is not possible I will settle for 3.1.......

$300 5.1 + TrueHD decoding does not compute. You'll need to increase your budget to fully take advantage of uncompressed Bluray audio.

The B2030P's are ~$125 a pair, but their sound quality is worth abour $450 and are perfectly adequate for Bluray. I'd start with 4.0, then save for a quality sub. Then get a 3rd pair if you think you need a center speaker.

I agree with Patrick. You'll need to increase the budget. There are deals to be had though. Just do your research.
When I first joined this forum I choose the name "BudgetHT" thinking I would be happy with the HTiB that I originally bought. The only component left in that system now is the receiver which will go soon as well.
Do it right the first time. Spend a little extra now or spend a lot later.

you mention an Onkyo SR507 receiver which is around $278 .... so I am assuming the $300 budget is for speakers only ?

you can do a modest 5.0 setup with Polk Monitor 40 fronts, a Polk CS1 center, and Polk Monitor 30 surrounds for close to $300

The cheapest LifeStyle 5.1 I see is $1400, and Vanns.com has the V30 for $2600. So I can't imagine that $300 is comparable.

You've gotten some good recommendations already. Since you mention 3.1, might I suggest 2.1. My LF and RF speakers are about 10' apart, and I'm preferring running 4.1 (center phantomed) to 5.1.

Two Bahringer 2030Ps and a Dayton 12" sub will run about $300 together. Another $150 will get you surrounds.

This budget is doable, but will require bargain hunting.

I'd suggest 2 pairs of Behringer 2030p's which run 130 each shipped. So that's 260 total. toss in a dayton when you get the chance and you have a nice setup.

Your other option is to buy TSC speakers.
