Hi,

As an addition to my 110watts and $1000 question. I was wondering if you folks think that a Yamaha HTR 5760 will effectively drive a 4ohm speaker like the Totem Rainmaker and really bring it to life at moderate volumes or should I stick to an more mainstream speaker with an 8ohm impedance?

I also read on another thread that the 4ohm/8ohm selection switch on the back of my reciever should always be left on 8ohms no matter what. Can anybody confirm this?

Thanks alot.

Impedance ratings are "nominal" ratings. There's more to it than that. It's likely your amp will work with the 4ohm speakers but calling the manufacturer may be wise. An 8ohm speaker can dip to 4 ohms and run to 32 ohms and a 4 ohm speaker may dip to 3 ohms and also run to 30 ohms. So it depends. I'd try it. I use a Kenwood receiver on some Legacy Classics that are a fairly large speaker rated at 4 ohms and it works fine.
