I have never heard the bookshelf speakers from Axiom so I cannot comment on them. The M60 does not seem bright to me, but then again, its a matter of personal taste.

I believe brightness is a combination of personal preference, speaker, placement, ROOM, electronics and software (CD, DVD, etc). In most cases people with top notch hardware suffering brightness have not looked into room treatment. I believe 60% of the complaints of speaker brightness can be attributed to poor room acoustics and acoustic treatments not being used.

2 studio 100's fronts , 570 center, 2 studio 60's rears, should be able to buy all for less than 4,000 and the 570 is an awesom center!

I am going to go along with most of the posts. Something from Paradigm or Monitor Audio should fit the bill.
